Important Note for Delegates arriving at Keele

If you arrive between 9am and 6pm please go to the reception in the Chancellor's Building to register and gain access to your accommodation.
If you arrive at any other time please proceed to the 24 hour reception in the Darwin Building.

General Location

Keele University campus and the village of Keele are two miles to the West of Newcastle-under-Lyme and near Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire (Online Map). This location is in the heart of England, easily accessed by road from the M6 & M6 toll road, M1, A34 and A50, and by rail and bus from Stoke-On-Trent railway station. Rail connections to Stoke-on-Trent are available from Birmingham and Manchester airports.

Arriving by Road

From the M6

  • Exit at J16
  • Take the exit at the roundabout signposted A500, Keele University.
  • At the next 2 roundabouts take the 1st exit, signposted A531 & A525, Keele.
  • At the next roundabout take the 2nd exit (straight ahead), signposted A531 & A525, Keele
  • Continue along this road through the villages of Betley & Madeley Heath.
  • From here the University is signposted (Note: Guests visting Keele Management Centre can take one of two exits for Keele village. The management centre is sistuated in the centre of the village)

From the M1
If you're travelling from Yorkshire or the North East directions from the M1 are also available. The M1 is roughly 50 miles from Keele.

Arriving by Rail

Stoke-on-Trent station is 5 miles from the University and Crewe station is approximately 12 miles. Timetables are available online from National Rail Enquiries.

Services from London Euston to Stoke-on-Trent run approximately every 30 minutes. The journey time is approximately 2 hours. Services from London Euston to Crewe run approximately every 20 minutes. The journey time is approximately 2 hours.

Services from Birmingham to Stoke-on-Trent run approximately every 30 minutes. The journey time is approximately 1 hour.

Services from Manchester to Stoke-on-Trent run approximately every 15 minutes. The journey time is approximately 45 minutes.

Buses from Stoke-on-Trent Station
First Buses operate the number 24 service to the centre of campus for the Symposium, Holly Cross and Keele Hall, and the number 25 service to nearby Keele village (Senyd Arms).

Buses from Crewe Station
D&G buses to Newcastle (No. 85A service) leave from the stop to the right of the station entrance towards the roundabout. This runs hourly on Monday to Saturday and two-hourly on Sunday.

Arriving by Air

From Manchester International Airport or Birmingham International Airport continue by rail to Stoke-On-Trent or Crewe, or by road on the M6 and follow the directions above.

Those travelling from overseas should note that traffic levels on English roads are very high, as are fuel costs. If you are travelling alone, rail services tend to be cheaper and are often quicker than hiring a car and making the journey by road.

There is a direct hourly train service from Manchester Airport to Crewe which takes only 33 minutes.

Rail journeys from either airport to Stoke-on-Trent generally require one change and take around 80 minutes. If you're searching the train timetable note that the station at Manchester Airport is called 'Manchester Airport' but the station at Birmingham Airport is called 'Birmingham International'.
