National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centers

In 1985 a group of healthcare professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area, led by Marilyn Milos, founded the National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centers (NOCIRC); the first national clearinghouse in the United States for information about circumcision. In its first decade, they grew into an international network and now have more than 110 centres worldwide.

NOCIRC provides educational material about the structures, functions, development, and care of normal penile anatomy and offers information about circumcision. NOCIRC suggests that circumcision be performed only when it is absolutely medically necessary, after all non-invasive therapies have failed, or when an adult gives consent, after he has been fully informed about the risks and harm of the surgery. NOCIRC's position is based on the fact that not one national or international medical association in the world, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association, recommends routine infant circumcision.

Keele University School of Law

Keele University School of Law is among the elite in UK legal education. In addition to equipping students with the skills needed to analyse legal doctrine and legislation, the School is committed to locating the study of law within social, cultural, political, historical and comparative contexts. This enlightened attitude has led to professors Marie Fox and Michael Thompson agreeing to co-host Genital Integrity 2008 at the Keele School of Law.
The School scored 5*A, in the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) in 2001. This is the highest possible score and indicates international excellence throughout the School. The only other UK law schools to score 5*A in 2001 were Cambridge, Durham, University College London and the LSE.

NORM-UK

NORM-UK was originally inspired by the US “National Organisation of Restoring Men” Now NORM-UK is a wholly independent registered charity founded in 1995 by Dr John Warren MB DCH FRCP. The charity aims to advance the education of the public in all matters relating to circumcision and other forms of surgical alteration of the genitals, including alternative treatments and offering information and advice on such matters. The charity has dealt with thousands of enquiries, both about foreskin restoration and about avoidance of circumcision. NORM-UK has helped men who were ritually circumcised as children, and our view is that we cannot support the mutilation of children for any reason, unless there is a serious condition not treatable by conservative measures. We do not oppose ritual circumcision of fully informed adults, who have given their consent.
The genital mutilation of children (who are naturally incapable of giving informed consent) regardless of their sex, race or social background, violates their human rights, and exposes them to pain, risks to physical and psychological health, and to permanent bodily mutilation. We believe that the skin or mucosa covering the sexual organs of the human is a unique and highly specialised part of the body, richly endowed with tactile sensory receptors, and that it plays an important role in conveying sexual pleasure.
